OVERVIEW

According to the U.S. Small Business Association, almost two-thirds of business theft results from employees. The association estimates that more than $1 billion per week is stolen from employers; and that nearly one-third of business bankruptcies are caused by internal theft.

Pinkerton and Associates estimates that the total loss from internal theft may be nearly $170 billion per year when taking into account “time” theft – excessive breaks, bogus
sick days, late arrivals and early departures, and excessive socializing. White-collar crime costs the U.S. more than $400 billion annually. In Florida, it costs businesses $44 billion per year.
