OVERVIEW

Florida Crime Prevention Association found that each year, Florida insurers and business owners suffer an estimated $1 billion in losses due to equipment theft. As little as 10 % of this equipment is recovered.

According to the FBI, the three major crimes affecting businesses are:

  • Robbery: is taking or attempting to take anything of value by force or threat of force. The average loss for businesses is $1,676 per robbery.

  • Burglary: is the unlawful entry of a structure to commit a felony or theft. According to FBI, 57.7 % of nonresidential burglaries occur at night with an average loss of $1,678.

  • Larceny: is taking, carrying, leading or riding away of property from the possession of another. This includes shoplifting, purse snatching, or thefts from motor vehicles. Average loss is $699.
